Marilyn Puett's son and daughter-in-law My son and his girlfriend of 4 1/2 years were married last month in an old, restored glitz-and-glamour movie house in Birmingham, Alabama. They even put their names on the marquis! Neat, huh? The story of their engagement is quite romantic. They met in 2001 at the Earth Day festival at their university -- Auburn University -- at dusk. When my son decided to propose, he wanted to do it at dusk at the Earth Day festival last year -- April 2004. But he learned that there wasn't going to be a festival because no one was willing to organize it. So he joined the club that sponsored it, arranged everything (including hiring a band, getting sound equipment, Marilyn Puett's son and daughter-in-law making sure they had all the proper permits, etc.) and invited his girlfriend to visit for the weekend (she'd graduated the previous semester and was living 2 hours away). The morning of the festival, she spotted a ring box on the table in his place and asked about it. She kept trying to change the subject but she was stubborn. So he finally said "If you have to look, go ahead." When she opened the box, she saw his new college ring, a graduation gift from us. Off they went to the festival and at dusk he turned to her and said "I'm sorry about giving you such a hard time about that ring, but here's something that should make up for it." And he pulled out a diamond ring and proposed. As I said, they were married last month and two nights ago we got a call from our son, letting us know that we're going to be grandparents the middle of next June. It's unexpected but they're excited and so are we. So there you have it -- proposal, wedding and baby-to-be all in one story!

P.S. I'm just so glad I didn't kill my son when he was 2 and drew all over the walls with a stick of margarine. <g> I suppose that was the beginning of his artistic bent. He's now an architect.

Marilyn Shoemaker Can you tell this was the late 60's? Well it was and love at first sight. First date in March, proposal in June and married in November for over 30 years. Ron is still my best friend and we were blessed with a son Chris and a year later, daughter Keri after waiting 7 long years for them to join out family. We love to travel and cruise and we both worked for major cruise lines. Our 25th anniversary was spent on the Love Boat (Pacific Princess) the company I worked for and we sailed through Europe. It was fun looking back in time at my Jackie Kennedy style dress.

My brother's oldest son was married in a lovely church this past June. The groom is a deputy sheriff and he has known his bride for many years. They met in school and belonged to the same church youth group as teens. She moved away with her family and then moved back to the area a few years ago. They made a lovely couple. ~ Ms. Dean Young

There are so many good things happening in my life right now it is hard to know where to start. Our son returned safely Laura's son and grandson.

from Afghanistan where he was stationed in the Army for a year, and where he was reunited with all of us, his wife and also met his son who was born while he was stationed overseas! He came home two days before Hurricane Katrina struck here in Biloxi. Laura's son and grandson.

We were so fortunate, as although like so many we suffered home damage, we came through safe and sound. Although our daughter had to postpone her wedding due to complete damage to our church, she was finally able to marry the man of her dreams. There may be many months ahead of picking up the pieces of our lives, but my life feels so rich right now with so many people to love and how blessed I feel to just be alive.

Lonnie & Erin

Halloween, 2005, and my fiancé, Lonnie, and I are on our way to a Halloween party at my parents' house. Lonnie says, “Let's stop by and look at the foundation of our house.” (Lonnie works for the construction development company) So we stop by the site and there, in the cement of the foundation of our new home, Lonnie had written, “ Erin , will you marry me?” with rhinestones embedded in the cement around the question.
Needless to say, my answer was “Yes!”

If this Carribean pirate looks familiar, that's because he's my November Man of the Month, Lonnie McDermott! The beautiful Indian Maiden by his side is Erin Stockton. Could these two be on the cover of a historical or what!
